The NAACP Los Angeles is dedicated to promoting equality and justice for all. Through its advocacy and initiatives, the branch will persist in "Making A Difference." ***Additional Officers and Executive Committee Members will be announced here. When an appointment is made by the President of the NAACP Los Angeles.
The NAACP Los Angeles was founded in the living room of Dr. John Sommerville and Dr. Vada Somerville in 1914. In 1949 Dr. John Somerville was appointed to the Los Angeles Police Commission. Dr. John Somerville served as president of the NAACP Los Angeles for 10 years. Here is a powerful article on Dr. John Somerville. It is written by Sarah Lifton, a Los Angeles-based writer who specializes in history, architecture and education.
